Agfa begann 1867 in Berlin mit der Produktion von Platten und Filmen aller Art.
1925 wurde die "IG Farben" gegründet, in der die Fa.Bayer ihr Kamerawerk Rietzschel einbrachte. Agfa übernahm die Kameraproduktionssparte.
Ab 1927 , mit dem Start der Produktion im neuen Münchner Werk, erschien der Agfa Rhombus auf Kameras
Ab 1928 wird mit Ansco USA
kooperiert.
1945 bis 1953 stand das Werk unter US Administration und wurde dann von der Bayer AG übernommen.
1959 übernahm Agfa die Iloca Werke, Hamburg und
1969 den Objeivhersteller Staeble in Schongau.
1983 wurde die Kamerafertigung aufgegeben.

Agfa began production of all kinds of films and plates in 1867 in Berlin.
1927 when part of 'IG Farben' Agfa
took over camera production from
Bayer, which owned Rietzschel Kamerawerke.
The Agfa sign appeared on cameras
from 1927, when camera production
started in the new factory in Munich.
From 1928 a cooperation with Ansco
made Agfa cameras
highly successful in the US.
From 1945 to 1953 Agfa was under
supervision of the US administration in
Germany, afterwards got part of
Bayer AG.
Iloca Kamerawerk, Hamburg, was
bought in 1959 an Staeble, which
produced lenses in Schongau,
was taken over in 1969.
Camera production ceased in 1983.
